I think there is one major difference between music and TV that will prevent Apple from changing the purchasing paradigm. When Apple came out with iTunes music, the content creators and the sales functions were separate, e.g. Sony Music did not own Tower Records. In today’s TV world, content and distribution are too tightly intertwined to let Apple get in the middle in a meaningful way. That doesn’t mean never, but I don’t expect real changes any time soon.
